# Parametric Modeling
At the core of most engineering designs is a parametric model. Parametric, which literally means to measure alongside is a way of modeling in which relationships are created between each piece of geometry. It is much more akin to creating a build script, and can be thought of as having an incredibly fast model shop. Your features and parameters provide this shop with the proper instructions, and it executes, usually in less than a second. Parametric modeling is fundamentally different from Direct Modeling which will be covered in a later lesson.
